Some facts you should be aware of regarding vision problems in children include: · Vision problems and bad grades often go together. If your child is having trouble in school, be sure to get their vision checked! · Crossed eyes, prematurity and a family history of eye disease increase a child’s chance of having eye problems. · Children should have their eyes examined once every one to two years even if there aren’t any risk factors for vision problems. Vision Facts If you are interested in learning about eye care for yourself there are a number of important facts to note: · Legitimate eye screening tests include: eye tests performed by the school nurse, eye exams performed during a driving test or an eye exam using the chart in a doctor’s office. · The common purpose for those dilating eye drops used during an eye exam is to allow your optometrist to see the interior of your eye better. · Vision screenings cannot test for eye disease so a comprehensive eye exam is necessary. · Even if you see well getting your eyes checked regularly is important. · Those over 60 should have their eyes checked at least once a year as your risk for eye disease increases as you age. · Some of things you should have at your eye exam are previous glasses, a list of current medications and your family’s health history.
