Eyewear in the Future
The latest trends in eyewear were showcased in New York City’s International Vision Expo this year. Several adjustable specs were introduced to cut back on the number of glasses a person has to carry around. These glasses, that have an adjustable wheel on the lenses, will replace the need to have separate glasses for all of your vision needs. Unfortunately they’re about 30 percent more expensive than most eyewear out there. The technology used in these lenses is known as Superfocus. Though it was one of the highlights of the Expo it wasn’t the only new technology introduced to eyewear. - LightSpecs by Foster Grant: These reading glasses have LED’s built into them so there is no need to turn on a light to see your book. These glasses are also relatively cheap and can be found at most drugstores.
- PURE glasses by Legacie: These lightweight glasses have memory technology and do not burden the wearer with heavy frames. The alloy these glasses are made with is somewhat expensive though.
- Columbia Interchangeable glasses: This one pair of glasses can turn into several with interchangeable frames suited for any occasion. These glasses are also more expensive, costing around $275 a pair.
- Gunnar OPTIKS: These glasses are made specifically for computer use. They help with common vision problems associated with working on a computer all day and they are relatively inexpensive.
- Transitions lenses: These lenses change to sunglasses when they are exposed to light. This technology allows users to carry one prescription pair of eyeglasses for indoor and outdoor use.
- emPower glasses: Like Superfocus lenses, these allow you to change the focus of your lenses for up close or far away. They have been approved by insurance companies so you won’t have to pay full price.
