Macular Degeneration and Eye Supplements In 1990, a major eye nutrition study was performed by the Age-Related Eye Disease Study. The study was sponsored by the National Eye Institute and the National Institute on Health. The study was originally designed to investigate the risk factors that are related to macular degeneration and to evaluate the effects of supplements on the progression of macular degeneration. The results of the study indicated that a combination of certain supplements, mainly Vitamins A, C and E, would reduce the risks of developing advanced macular degeneration.
