Nutritional Tips for Healthy Eyes
We all know that we need to have a diet rich in nutrients that can be found in fruits and vegetables, and for many of us over the age of 40, there’s even more proof of that in our spare tires..and no, not the ones on our cars! A healthy diet rich in essential nutrients can contribute to overall health, including that of the eyes. The following nutrients have great general benefits to the body, but play an even more important role for the eyes. - Beta-carotene – your mom wasn’t kidding when she said that eating carrots would help you see in the dark. While they won’t give you super-powers, it can in reality improve night vision. Vitamin A is another important and related nutrient.
- Vitamin B – all forms of vitamin B are essential for retina health. Eye disorders affecting this part of the eye have been linked to vitamin B deficiency and supplements can help prevent age related eye problems.
- Vitamin C – vitamin C is important since it is an antioxidant, but it can also prevent cataracts, according to studies.
- Vitamin D – get a bit more sunshine in your life to prevent macular degeneration.
- Vitamin E – is believed to reduce the risks of cataracts.
Talk to your doctor before incorporating vitamin supplements into your health routine. Natural sources of the above nutrients can be incorporated into your diet.
