Reading Glasses Better for Eye Health Than Contact Lenses
There are some people that are benching their reading glasses in favour of the less conspicuous contact lenses that are also available to improve vision. You might think that by wearing contact lenses you’re all trendy and cool (and likely hope they help you look a bit less old), but they can cause you problems! There are pretty specific rules that you need to abide by to care for your contact lenses or you risk an infection caused by Acanthamoeba keratitis, small amoeba that are often found in water sources. The infection can develop based on poor lens cleaning habits, or in some cases from the lens cleaning solution itself. If you develop an infection caused by this amoeba you may experience pain in your eyes, blurred vision, and light sensitivity. Of course, there is no risk of encountering these same complications when you choose to use your reading glasses. While you should still clean and care for them, the consequences aren’t so grave if you don’t get it quite right. So, you’ll find that your reading glasses are much better for your eye health than your contact lenses, plus you’ll look pretty dapper if you’re a man and women like that!
