Why Visit the Optometrist: What Can They Do for Vision Health?

You might think that a visit to the optometrist serves no distinct purpose, after all, it is usually pretty obvious when your vision is going, don`t you think? It might feel a bit like a torture session while you go through a serious of tests to remind you just how bad your vision has become, but it can greatly improve your eye health. An optometrist is a medical doctor, but they have specialized training to deal with the eyes and they can give you more insight about things you might not want to know, but will be glad you did when it can improve your health and vision.

Want to know what you can expect when you visit the optometrist? Here is an overview for you of all of the torture that you are fairly likely to be put through.

1. Vision tests - the first thing that an optomestrist usually does is checks your vision. This is the part that will really tell you if you have gotten old, especially if you already suspected it! The optometrist will look at the depth of your vision, ability to focus, and ability to see different colours. This is when they will also determine if you need reading glasses, and what strength to purchase.

2. Eye disease and illness - a check will be done for glaucoma, and if it is discovered, a prescription may be provided to you. Believe it or not, your eyes can also act as a gateway to your overall health, so if you're experiencing any specific vision issues that might only occur periodically, mention it to the doctor. It can be a sign of a medical issue like diabetes that can compromise vision.

Hey, visiting the optometrist might tell you that you're getting older and force you to stop denying it, but at least that kind of health assessment will help you stay alive. Isn't that something?
