What you need to know about frames and lenses
There is more than meets the eye when comparing reading
glasses.
Although two reading glasses may
look similar, there can be differences in the frames and lenses.
Frames - It's all
material
Metal
Frames
All metal frames offered at Readerwear are corrosion
resistant and hypoallergenic. Metal frame materials are
Nickel/Silver, Monel, and Stainless Steel. Stainless Steel frames, although more expensive,
are stronger, lighter, and allow an element of
flexibility.
Plastic Frames
Particularly popular today are frames made from
coloured plastics. There are two types of plastic frames, laminate
frames made from layers of cellulose acetate, or injected molded frames made from propionate. A
lamiante frame allows for colourful two-tone designs, intricate curves, and a more
polished finish.
Spring Temples
Spring
temples allow the frame to become more flexible and reduce the
stress put on the temple. This will keep your
frames from becoming bent or
bowed.
Aspheric Lenses - Clearly Better
Thanks to state-of-the art optical technology,
aspheric lenses offer three major benefits.
They are
Lighter
Aspheric lenses
usually weigh about 25% less than normal lenses. This means that
readers with aspheric lenses are more comfortable to wear.
They are Thinner
Aspheric lenses are thinner than normal lenses.
This allows for better cosmetic appearance by not magnifying your eye from
the outside.
Less Distortions
Individuals who require strong prescriptions
find that they have a small degree of distortion. Although this is
not completely removed with aspheric lenses, the distortions are greatly
reduced.
